CUMBERLAND, Md. — Preventative medicine is the best thing a parent can do for their child, and includes the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, Dr. Matthew Simmons said. He is UPMC Western Maryland’s vice president of medical staff affairs and specializes in infectious diseases. The MMR vaccine is given as a series of two doses, typically with the first at 12 to 15 months of age, and the second between 4 and 6 years of age. “It’s a great vaccine,” Simmons said.
