CUMBERLAND — A $30,000 artificial Christmas tree and increases to residents’ water and trash fees were discussed at a mayor and City Council work session Tuesday. Cumberland Administrative Services Director Ken Tressler provided a proposed fiscal 2026 budget update that includes 20% water and 73% trash rate increases. “The water fund is showing a negative cash flow of $192K,” the proposal states.

To learn more, he attended an open house hosted by NextEra Energy Transmission subsidiaries at the Good Will Fire Company Armory in Lonaconing on Wednesday. The company said the event was held to collect public feedback on the proposed MidAtlantic Resiliency Link, a roughly 105-mile transmission line from Pennsylvania to Virginia.
