Youngest sister Kjani hopes to lift Farmington to Class 5A state title next year FARMINGTON – The Farmington High School girls basketball team hasn’t had a losing record since 2017. The following year in 2018, a freshman by the name of Kiiyani Anitielu joined the Scorpions roster. The next six years saw three more athletes join Farmington’s roster, all with names that began with the letter “K”- inspired from a blend of their Native American and Samoan backgrounds – and ending with Anitielu.

Panthers hold on for opening round win over Broncos before routing Santa Fe FARMINGTON – The Piedra Vista softball team opened the 2025 Linda Crabtree Invitational with a convincing 16-0 win Thursday over Santa Fe. The Panthers were led offensively by sophomore Octaviana John, who drove in three runs while going 2-for-2 with a home run. Senior Brookelynn Cadrain laced a pair of doubles and drove in three runs while sophomore Michaela Perea also had three runs batted in with a pair of doubles.

District 1-4A tournament title goes to Bengals, snapping five-game losing streak against Broncos as both teams prepare for postseason tourney KIRTLAND – The Gallup High girls basketball team, needing to reverse its fortunes of late against defending Class 4A state champion Kirtland Central, outlasted the Broncos by a final of 73-69 Saturday night in an emotion-filled District 1-4A tournament championship game.

Anitielu scores 29 points and becomes newest member of 1,000 point club FARMINGTON – There was a lot to celebrate Friday night at Scorpion Arena. In addition to the Farmington High girls basketball team winning the District 1-5A tournament championship game over Rio Rancho by a score of 63-57, securing a high seed in this week’s New Mexico Activities Association’s state championship tournament, it was also a banner night for junior Kjani Anitielu.
