Sen. Bob Menendez says he plans to appeal his conviction on 16 felony charges, including bribery, extortion and acting as a foreign agent. Legal analysts tell Kane In Your Corner that his appeal could get a boost from recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings, narrowing the scope of federal bribery and corruption charges. Legal analyst Candace Kelley points to a Supreme Court ruling last month, in which justices threw out the conviction of an Indiana mayor because he’d received payments after the fact.

News 12's senior investigative reporter Walt Kane looks at the threat, and what area water systems are doing about it. “You've been hacked.” This was the frightening message sent by a group of cyber-terrorists based in Iran to a water company in Pennsylvania. The Aliquippa Water Authority says alarms went off as soon as the attack happened, and the water supply was never at risk.

Gov. Phil Murphy says he would be open to signing legislation that would require all rape kits released to law enforcement departments to be tested. In a primetime investigative documentary this month, the Kane In Your Corner team exposed how one in three kits victims released to law enforcement are never tested. New Jersey is one of only a handful of states that allows prosecutors to choose not to test kits even when a survivor wants them tested.

New Jersey is one step closer to banning an herbal product from Asia known as Kratom. A New Jersey legislative committee approved CJ's Law, which would make it illegal to sell or possess the substance, known as Kratom. C.J. Holowach, of Monmouth County, died after taking Kratom last year. The medical examiner listed Kratom as the primary cause of death, but noted it was used in conjunction with other prescription medications, including Ritalin.
