The Daviess County Council approved a hefty increase in funding for pauper attorneys in the Daviess Circuit Court. Just six months into the year Daviess Circuit Court Judge Greg Smith went before the council looking for an increase of $150,000 to cover pauper attorney fees for defendants in his court. Council President Marilyn McCullough says there are several reasons for the increase. “They have had more cases than expected this year,” she said.

ELNORA—The finishing touches are being put on the Daviess County Fair that runs June 15 to June 21 in Elnora. Organizers say the show is set and ready starting with the annual parade through town on the opening Sunday. “We have everything set for a great fair,” said Daviess County Fair Vice-President Charlotte Evans. “We have added several new things, starting with day one. We have a lot of family fun things and things for the kids.

A partnership between the City of Washington's WaterWorld and the Daviess County Family YMCA will give 60 county youth a chance to learn safety around water and basic swim skills. Daviess County Family YMCA Aquatics and Group Exercise Director Jessika Henning said the first session of swim and water safety lessons is already booked. Henning said registration opened last week for the first sessions and the 30 available spots were quickly filled.

North Daviess will enter sectional play on a high note after defeating county rival Washington 8-4 at Washington on Memorial Day. Washington (10-13) opened the scoring with a pair of first inning runs against ND starter Caleb Miller. John Chapman drove in Trey James with a one-out double to left, and Brody Clark, who had singled and then moved to third on Chapman’s double, scored when Ben Merold grounded out.
