However, smaller files (e.g., less than 1MB) can be inefficient to process in bulk, as Spark incurs overhead when opening and processing each file individually. In this demo, we use AWS Athena with Trino SQL (Amazon Ion Hive SerDe) to query and consolidate 17.9MB of 10,441 JSON files into 3.9MB of 21 SNAPPY-compressed Parquet files.

This method is particularly useful when you want to leverage a pre-trained model for a new task without overfitting or spending too much time on training.
