Larimer County has finalized its effort to conserve nearly 5,000 acres of land near Livermore. The county purchased conservation easements on three contiguous ranches in the area, described as holding significant ecological and scenic value. Conservation easements are agreements to limit land use to specific purposes, often grazing or other agricultural purposes, and prohibit residential or commercial development or other uses that would degrade the area’s natural environment.

An investigation by the 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) found that a Larimer County Sheriff’s sergeant was legally justified in using physical force during a shootout last month in Fort Collins. Sgt. Samuel Roth was assisting Jason Hart, an LCSO deputy, pursue Keith Williams, a man on a dirt bike that was not street legal on March 10. Williams, according to the CIRT report released Friday, had fled on the dirt bike after Hart turned on his lights.

The Loveland Police Department was made aware of the incident on April 3, according to a Friday release from the department. The incident occurred on April 1, with the investigation revealing that a student brought an unloaded firearm to the school.
