Arkansas State coach Bryan Hodgson was sitting in silence on a plane with his fiancee, Jordan, fresh off a second-round loss to North Texas in the National Invitational Tournament last Sunday. Hodgson was thinking about his future. There was one coaching vacancy he had his eye on. “I laid in bed that night after we landed and prayed I would get that phone call the next morning,” Hodgson said.

USF introduced Brian Hodgson as the 12th men’s basketball coach in program history on Friday morning at the Muma Basketball Center. USF was losing  9-7 at halftime and down 12 in the third-quarter – until a late game offensive barrage that saw four Bulls touchdowns in the final 21 minutes of play.

After a three-game slide, the Bulls secured their first conference win against UAB on Saturday. But the 35-25 win back at Raymond James Stadium wasn’t all too satisfying for USF head coach Alex Golesh. “A really sloppy game up until the fourth quarter,” he said. Tensions flared throughout the match, with some USF players even coming to blows during the third quarter. Golesh said he was embarrassed by the scuffle on the sidelines. “Completely against everything you ever want,” he said.
