What the state of Illinois defines as the Galesburg area has an unemployment rate that’s lower as of September compared to the same period a year ago, that doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story. The Galesburg-area (Galesburg Micropolitan Statistical Area) unemployment average, according to federal data through the Illinois Department of Employment Security, is at 5.3%, down three-tenths of a percentage point from the year before.

A Knox College grad says she grew more and more curious as she read Agatha Christie's novels time and again. In this case, there were words and phrases written into Christie's books over the decades that she didn't understand. So, Kate Gingold set out to research and find out what those words and phrases meant. In what is going to be a multi-part series of books published under the "Agatha Annotated" banner, Gingold has published a glossary of sorts of Christie's works from the 1920's.

OSF HealthCare says, like its counterpart Graham Health System, it will not charge patients a fee for not making it to an appointment. Instead, OSF says it will make every effort possible to get to the cause of canceling an appointment, and making sure that patients can get there in the future.

An eatery on the Knox-Fulton County line that’s well known, especially for its tenderloins, is for sale. One of the owners of Spoonie’s Bar and Grill in London Mills, Dena Anderson, said on social media she’s long dreamed of just a 40 hour work week, but owning a bar and grill just isn’t that. After 15 years, Anderson says, it’s time to rest and do something, like take a vacation.

A show hosted by Sabrina's Bridal in Galesburg will also help raise money for an area organization that helps local youth with mental health problems. The "2024 Falling in Love Bridal and Prom Show" is Sunday, October 27th, at the Knights of Columbus in Galesburg. In addition to a number of bridal and prom vendors and a fashion show, there will also be a silent auction that benefits Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center.
