Lee Nelson, aged 27, had told a member of staff at the accommodation on St George's Road that he was going to "set his room on fire" on July 17 last year. Nelson, who is of the Beech Mental Health Ward at Royal Bolton Hospital, followed through on that threat. There were two other service users and staff in the building.

Dale Dean, aged 27, has been charged following the attack at a store on Kentmere Road, Breightmet on Saturday evening, April 5. Dean, who is of Upper West Grove in Ardwick, Manchester, was charged with attempted murder, affray and possession of a bladed article.

The Educate North Awards highlight world-class achievements across the university, higher education, further education and sixth form sectors in the North of England. The event was held at the iconic Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday, April 3.

Anthony Pennington, 39, and David Howells, 58, were both involved in a mass brawl on August 19, 2023. The fight took place between fans of Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic following the derby match on that day. Around 40 to 50 fans fought in the street at around 4pm.

The school, which is off Ashworth Lane, was initially given the rating following a visit in May 2019. Lead inspector Claire Cropper visited the school on February 11 and 12 this year to see if it had taken effective action to maintain its standards.

The BL4 8QJ postcode in Kearsley won on the People's Postcode Lottery on Friday. The area covers a part of Manchester Road, near to Bent Spur Road in the town. Each ticket in that area entitles its holder to £1,000.

Clarendon Primary School in Great Lever is still ranked "good" by Ofsted. At its last full inspection in 2016, the Recreation Street school was awarded the rating by the education watchdog.
