3 1/1 A man set fire to his room in supported living accommodation, a court heard. Lee Nelson, aged 27, had told a member of staff at the accommodation on St George's Road that he was going to "set his room on fire" on July 17 last year. Nelson, who is of the Beech Mental Health Ward at Royal Bolton Hospital, followed through on that threat. There were two other service users and staff in the building.

The incident occurred at Kentmere Off License (Image: Leah Collins) A man has been charged with attempted murder after an attack which involved a machete. Dale Dean, aged 27, has been charged following the attack at a store on Kentmere Road, Breightmet on Saturday evening, April 5. Dean, who is of Upper West Grove in Ardwick, Manchester, was charged with attempted murder, affray and possession of a bladed article.

2 1/1 A Bolton sixth form has won big at an awards show. The Sixth Form Bolton won the Student Experience Award at the Educate North Awards for its Women into Leadership Programme. The Educate North Awards highlight world-class achievements across the university, higher education, further education and sixth form sectors in the North of England. The event was held at the iconic Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday, April 3.

An image from the brawl (Image: Public) Two more men who brawled following a football match, one of whom took his shirt off in the fight, have been sentenced. Anthony Pennington, 39, and David Howells, 58, were both involved in a mass brawl on August 19, 2023. The fight took place between fans of Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic following the derby match on that day. Around 40 to 50 fans fought in the street at around 4pm.
