Three Pueblo County School District 70 schools closed on April 21 due to an alleged swatting incident. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office and FBI investigated threats made across multiple platforms but found no credible evidence of validity. The threat originated out of state but initially appeared to come from a Pueblo D70 student, who investigators cleared of involvement. The affected schools, deemed safe after searches, will resume normal operations on April 22.

Nicholas Jordan was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for the February 2024 shooting deaths of Celie Rain Montgomery and Samuel Knopp. The shooting occurred in a University of Colorado at Colorado Springs dorm room where Jordan and Knopp were roommates. Jordan received two sentences of life in prison without parole. A former student at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs was found guilty of murder April 16 for a double homicide in a campus dorm room in February 2024.

A 19-year-old Pueblo man who was shot and killed April 6 in an alleged drive-by shooting was identified April 11 by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office. Michael James Suazo sustained a gunshot wound during a confrontation in the 1900 block of North Hudson Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene by a coroner investigator. His next of kin has been notified, according to the coroner.
