BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WNCT) — ECU’s baseball team carried momentum over to Friday’s game versus UAB. The Pirates defeated the Blazers, 12-7, Thursday night, Apr. 17, 2025. Friday’s matchup wasn’t as high-scoring but ECU still got the win, 5-3. Landon Beaver homered twice for UAB, once in the seventh inning to cut the Pirates’ lead from 4-1 to 4-3. ECU got out of the frame and added one more run in the ninth for the final score.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — ECU’s football team is eight days away from its annual Purple-Gold Spring Game. The team had its final scrimmage Friday prior to that game. ECU Head Coach Blake Harrell and other coaching staffs across the country are in a waiting game due to the transfer portal being open. The portal closes next Friday, Apr. 25, 2025 and exits have already been made including quarterback Jake Garcia.

Spencer Strider made his 2025 season debut on Wednesday, going five innings and giving up two runs with five strikeouts. It was a solid debut for the 2023 All-Star with the kind of leash that was to be expected. With a 5-13 record to start the season, the Atlanta Braves have been looking for some kind of spark to ignite the lineup, which has been limited to four runs or fewer in seven of their last nine games.

Former MLB No. 1 prospect Jackson Holliday, whose rapid rise to the MLB raised some serious eyebrows, is back for what projects to be his first full season in the bigs. Holliday hit .189 with five home runs in 60 games in 2024, including a 2-for-34 skid to start his MLB career prior to being sent down to the minors. The ceiling for Holliday is still very much there, and Orioles fans got another reason to be excited about Holliday's future.

If you've been living under a rock, Yankees captain Aaron Judge has been on a tear to start the year, with a .409 batting average, seven home runs, 21 RBIs and a 1.322 OPS, all first or second in the MLB. Judge continued his hot start to the season with a go-ahead solo home run in the Yankees' 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, which clinched a series sweep in the Bronx.
