UTICA, N.Y. -- On the heels of International Beaver Day, the Utica Zoo announced that it has welcomed three North American beavers. International Beaver Day is observed annually on April 7, and just a day later, the zoo revealed that siblings Cauliflower, Mustard and Tangerine—two females and one male—have joined the zoo family. This trio was born in 2003 at the Minnesota Zoo, a facility accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

UTICA, N.Y. -- WKTV's chief engineer is being honored with the esteemed title of fellow by the National Society of Broadcast Engineers. Tom McNicholl has been instrumental in WKTV's evolution here atop Smith Hill in Deerfield. In the 61 years since the Society of Broadcast Engineers was established, only 92 members have reached the rank of fellow. McNicholl has devoted over 50 years to WKTV, proudly serving as our chief engineer for more than 20 of those years.

UTICA, N.Y. -- From now until April 14, the New York State Police will join a national initiative aimed at combating distracted driving. This effort aligns with April's National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The campaign, known as Operation Hang Up, will include increased patrols and checkpoints, targeting drivers who are using electronic devices while driving. During the April 2024's Operation Hang Up, NYSP issued 21,768 tickets, including 4,056 tickets for distracted driving.
