    Oregon’s first major wildfire of the season, the Butte Creek Fire, has been mapped at 1,776 acres burning on the John Day River 9 miles north of Clarno in eastern Oregon as of May 27. Firefighters were suppressing the blaze with multiple crews, engines, dozers and aircraft. No evacuations or closures were in place.

    The transition into summer is kicking into full swing as Oregon and the Willamette Valley are forecast to get the warmest temperatures of the year so far. Portland, Salem and Eugene are forecast to see temperatures crack 80 degrees multiple times during the week and stretch into the mid-80s on May 30 and May 31.

    Opal Creek and 150 miles of Forest Service roads remain closed due to fire damage and hazard trees. McCoy Motorized Area, French Creek Road, and Whitewater Road are open with some limitations. Breitenbush Highway 46 will experience delays and closures for repairs until June 20. Ever so slowly, the outdoor playground that surrounds the Santiam Canyon, Detroit Lake and Mount Jefferson has started to get back to normal following the historic 2020 Labor Day Fires. But it’s not there yet.
