AbstractSleep interacts reciprocally with the gut microbiota. However, mechanisms of the gut microbe-brain metabolic axis that are responsible for sleep behavior have remained largely unknown. Here, we showed that the absence of the gut microbiota can alter sleep behavior. Sleep deprivation reduced butyrate levels in fecal content and the hypothalamus in specific pathogen-free mice but not in germ-free mice.

AbstractAqueous solution experiences either crystallization or vitrification as being cooled, yet the mechanism of this bifurcation is confused. Since the glass-transition temperature Tg is much lower than the melting temperature, we herein propose an entropy-driven glass-forming liquid (EDGFL) as an attractive concept to develop anti-freezing electrolytes.

AbstractMechanical energy harvesting using triboelectric nanogenerators is a highly desirable and sustainable method for the reliable power supply of widely distributed electronics in the new era; however, its practical viability is seriously challenged by the limited performance because of the inevitable side-discharge and low Coulombic-efficiency issues arising from electrostatic breakdown.
