Matty Matheson's hardcore band Pig Pen announce debut album, share "Mental Mentality"

When Matty Matheson isn’t busy being a chef, filming FX/Hulu series The Bear (he plays Fak), or posting videos to his popular YouTube channel, he fronts the Toronto hardcore band Pig Pen. The group, which also includes his old scene pals Wade MacNeil (Alexisonfire), Daniel and Ian Romano (Attack In Black), and Tommy Major (of Daniel’s solo band the Outfit), formed during the pandemic, just made their live debut last week, and have now announced their debut album.
HEALTH & Chelsea Wolfe team up for new single "MEAN"

Turnstile recently announced their return, releasing the title track from their forthcoming album, NEVER ENOUGH (out June 6 via Roadrunner Records). That song was a bit of a departure for the band, leaning into their synthier side and then erupting into a stadium-sized anthem over five minutes. Today, they’ve shared two more songs, “SEEIN’ STARS” and “BIRDS,” with the former including vocals from Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes and Paramore’s Hayley Williams.

Matty Matheson’s hardcore and punk roots may surprise those who only know him as a celebrity chef or The Bear’s lovable Neil Fak, but they’re deeply felt. He grew up on NYHC bands like Side By Side and Cro-Mags, played shows in the Ontario post-hardcore circuit, and let the members of Turnstile crash at his place when they couldn’t afford hotels. He even harbors an extensive collection of vintage band tees, wearing a few of them (Harm’s Way, Power Trip) during episodes of The Bear.

Going down at Chicago’s Douglass Park in September, the roster is an amalgam of the old guard and the new.
