If baseball is America’s pastime, gambling isn’t far away. Not in 2025, anyway, when advertisements from betting services proliferate the commercials between innings and regional sports networks are named after those companies. Whether you’re a bettor (or not) that uses metrics or the eye test, odds are Arkansas is the favorite. At FanDuel, they definitely are. Only three of the top eight seeds in the NCAA Tournament made the CWS in Omaha.

With John Calipari at the helm, being at least in the mix for the No. 1 overall player in each class should become commonplace for Arkansas basketball. That appears to be the case with Tyran Stokes, the top-ranked recruit for 2026. A versatile 6-foot-7 forward, he has long been considered one of the best prospects in his class and there was even some speculation that he may reclassify in time to play college basketball next season.

Much like its diamond brethren in baseball, Arkansas softball is a member of the sport’s best overall conference. Over the past 15 years, the SEC has shot up in stature in the overall college softball. For the first 25 years of the event, no team from the SEC even made the Women’s College World Series finals. It’s bad enough that Arkansas has to travel to Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU and Texas this upcoming season. Not to mention that Notre Dame is making its first ever trip to Fayetteville on Sept. 27. The real hazards, however, are the ‘toss-up’ games that have a way of triggering cardiac arrests. That certainly doesn’t apply to the Razorbacks’ season opener vs Alabama A&M on Aug. 30. They should be able to win that one with one arm tied behind their backs.

Bobby Petrino has never dealt with the kind of turnover Arkansas experienced on his side of the ball this offseason. Heading into his second year as the Razorbacks’ offensive coordinator, he must replace virtually the entire wide receiver and tight end rooms, two of his top three running backs and half of the offensive linemen who started in the regular season. All together, Arkansas is losing about 60% of its offensive snaps from 2024, according to Pro Football Focus.
