Phil Howes, who began his coaching career in Bicester, will be accompanying tennis star Alfie Hewett to Roland Garros and Wimbledon this summer as his official hitting training partner. The Bicester local met Norfolk's Mr Hewett after he entered and won a British Gas Peaksave competition, giving him the chance to play a game against the Grand Slam champion himself.

A fire at Bicester Motion on Buckingham Road, Bicester, broke out on Thursday evening prompting a major emergency response. Three people were killed in the fire with two firefighters, 30-year-old Jennie Logan and 38-year-old Martyn Sadler, among the victims. The tragedy also claimed the life of 57-year-old father-of-two, David Chester, who worked at the site.

Peter Cowling was reported missing last Friday (May 2) in a public appeal from police to help trace him. A body was discovered near Pigeons Lock in Kirtlington later that day which police said they believe to be that of Mr Cowling.
