    Earlier this month, the Korean Fried Chicken restaurant Vons Chicken closed after six years of business in Meridian. Now, a local taco truck stands to take its place. Tacos Loteria, which previously ran a truck on Chinden Blvd. in Garden City, will open its first brick-and-mortar location on Saturday. The taco truck originally opened in 2023. The grand opening will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to Tacos Loteria’s social media pages. The new location is on Fairview Ave.

    Animal advocates attended a special Caldwell town hall on Tuesday night to share their thoughts about the future of animal control services in the area. The City of Caldwell announced its plans to hold the town hall for input on its budget funding for the Caldwell-based West Valley Humane Society, with which it contracts for some animal sheltering services. The city said that during budget talks, the animal shelter proposed an increase in City of Caldwell funding from $68,000 to $540,000 per year.

    Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling announced on Monday morning that she would not seek reelection for a third term. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished as a community. It has been an honor to serve the people of Nampa,” Kling said in a news release. The release did not indicate a reason for Kling’s decision.     A long-time chef known for his sushi and Japanese cuisine is retiring and closing his restaurant. Shige and Debbie Matsuzawa announced on social media that Shige’s Sushi Express Meridian on Meridian Rd. will wrap up service at the end of the month. “Words can’t describe how grateful we are for this community and the relationships we’ve built over the years- especially those of you who came in as customers but turned into friends and family over the years. We are beyond thankful,” the post reads.
