Last year, Beachside Hospitality Group bought the iconic Sandbar from Ed Chiles and Chiles Hospitality in 2024. Now the new owners have completed renovations and added two new dining options to the restaurant at 100 Spring Ave., Anna Maria. They are Beachside Bites, a walk-up window for breakfast and light fare, and Sweet Willy’s Ice Cream Shoppe.

    You don’t have to wait for an approaching storm to grab sandbags in Manatee County this hurricane season. County officials announced there are several self-service sandbag locations now open throughout the county. They will operate through Nov. 30, the last day of hurricane season. From dawn until dusk, the following places will have sandbags available while supplies last:While bags and sand are provided, shovels and transportation are not, according to a news release.

    Russell Sultzbach, one of the pioneers of Central Florida’s dance scene, brought positive energy to whatever he did, recalled a former student. Orlando Ballet described him as “an extraordinary artist, teacher and mentor whose influence shaped generations of dancers and left a lasting mark on the Central Florida arts community” in a social-media tribute. Sultzbach died May 19, according to a Facebook post by his wife, Phyllis. He was 72.

One person visiting Seminole County’s Wekiva Island found that out last week when they were bit by one, according to a report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. FWC responded to the bite report on May 29. The individual was evaluated by emergency personnel on site and transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the report.
