Citing concerns about traffic, flooding and other issues, Manatee County commissioners recently denied plans for two future residential communities. At a Land Use Meeting on Thursday, Manatee County officials did not approve a proposed apartment complex in the Tara community off State Road 70. They also rejected plans for a new neighborhood called Crosswinds South in Parrish. Commissioners voted unanimously to deny a new neighborhood, Crosswinds South, from moving forward in Parrish.

Located at 6010 14th St. W., the popular fast-food restaurant opens Thursday, May 15. It’s the fifth Chick-fil-A location in Manatee County, and it’s located in the Bayshore Gardens shopping center where Duff’s Buffet once stood. Florida native Nathan Anderson, who has nearly a decade of experience operating a Chick-fil-A in Colorado, is the franchise owner for the new Bayshore Gardens restaurant. The new store is expected to create 130 new jobs, a news release said.

A new 120-unit affordable housing community for seniors is complete and accepting applications on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The $37.4 million project in Bradenton, called Astoria on 9th, is a collaboration between Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning’s nonprofit AM Affordable Housing and Miami-based developer Housing Trust Group. It’s Housing Trust Group’s fourth development in Bradenton, but its first for seniors.
