Firefighters were called to the fire at the Murfitts Industries site on Tuesday (Image: Brandon Fire Station) A tyre processing plant was back open on Wednesday after a blaze broke out in one of its machines. Firefighters were called to Murfitts Industries, in Lakenheath's Station Road, at about 5.35pm on Tuesday. The fire took hold within one of the machines, according to a spokesperson for the company.

Police responded to reports of a single car collision with the telephone pole on Queen Street, near Withersfield just after 8am. The crash happened between Withersfield and the Haverhill roundabout. On Thursday morning, another car hit a lamppost in Barnardiston, closing the road for nearly three hours.

A 63-year-old man has denied indecently assaulting a schoolgirl in Bury St Edmunds more than four decades ago. Giving evidence during his trial at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday, March 6, Christopher Attard said: “It never happened." He told the court he couldn’t think of any reason why the alleged victim would make up the allegations. Attard, of no fixed address, has denied three offences of indecent assault dating back to 1978.
