Firefighters were called to Station Yard in Needham Market at about 5.45am on Tuesday after being alerted to a blaze at the China Chef restaurant. A spokesperson for the restaurant said on social media the fire "took away its roof" and that one chef needed "some treatment in hospital". Simon Little, owner of the adjacent Needham Market Aerials, praised firefighters for their efficiency in stopping the flames from spreading.

Negotiations are taking place to fill two prominent empty restaurant units in Bury St Edmunds, it can be revealed. The former Frankie & Benny's and Burger Amour sites, in Parkway, have been vacant since both chains shut in 2022. It has now been confirmed by the building's owner, Derbyshire County Council Pension Fund, that talks are taking place with prospective tenants to occupy the premises.

The National Fire Chiefs Council has issued an amber wildfire alert for Suffolk, with the public urged to be aware of the heightened risk. Appliances from across the region spent the weekend battling flames on dry ground, with a number of incidents focused on west Suffolk. Eight pumps, as well as a water bowser from RAF Lakenheath, were alerted to a four hectare blaze in woodland at Barton Mills at about 4.45am on Monday.

Simon Wilson, of Elmswell-based HC Wilson Transport, told this newspaper he was "not surprised" that the spree was taking its toll in the county. A Freedom of Information request submitted to Suffolk police has revealed fuel thefts from lorries increased from 26 in 2023 to 51 in 2024. In 2018, just 10 cases were reported to the police. Mr Wilson said: "It does not surprise me that it is rampant/doubled because lorries parked in lay-bys overnight overnight are a prime target for the villains.

Jenny Riddell-Carpenter MP sent a letter to Suffolk County Council last Tuesday campaigning for the transformation of the former SET Saxmundham Free School in her Suffolk Coastal constituency. Andrew Reid, Suffolk County Council's cabinet member for education and SEND, has revealed the school is earmarked for a SEND school. In a letter to the Labour MP, Mr Reid said: "We agree on the urgency of creating more specialist SEND placements in Suffolk.
