CafeMom is a social networking site designed specifically for mothers and expectant moms, and it generates revenue through advertisements. Founded in 2006 by Andrew Shue and Michael Sanchez, CafeMom quickly gained popularity. In just a year after its debut, it became the leading website for women based on page views, as reported by comScore. The site attracts over 8 million unique visitors each month, resulting in more than 140 million page views. By 2009, CafeMom reported that it had become profitable. On March 30, 2010, CafeMom introduced The Stir, a new blog aimed at moms, covering a variety of topics including celebrity news, parenting challenges and solutions, current events, and home decor tips. Located in New York City, CafeMom employs approximately 120 people and is owned by the privately held company CMI Marketing.
