The Catholic Courier is the newspaper for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, New York. It was started by lay Catholics in 1889 under the name The Catholic Journal. Throughout its history, the newspaper has used different combinations of the words "Catholic," "Courier," and "Journal." In 1989, to celebrate its 100th anniversary, it was officially renamed the Catholic Courier.
