Bishop Salvatore R. Matano presided at the annual Solemn Mass of Chrism April 15 at Rochester’s Sacred Heart Cathedral. Priests in attendance were invited to renew their priestly vows following the homily, after which Bishop Matano blessed the Oil of the Sick, the Oil of the Catechumens and the Sacred Chrism. Rochester Dominicans gather in wake of nightclub tragedy

Members of the Dominican community in Rochester gathered at Rochester City Hall April 11 to show solidarity with and support for those in the Dominican Republic affected by a tragedy at a popular nightclub in the capital of Santo Domingo. Mary and Martha Parish in Auburn celebrated the March 19 feast day of St. Joseph with a St. Joseph’s Table at St. Francis of Assisi Church March 15. The meatless feast in honor of the saint dates back to Sicily in the Middle Ages, when the people prayed to St. Joseph to end a terrible drought. The banquet usually includes a table adorned with flowers, statues and traditional Italian foods.
Book vending machine promotes literacy and positive behavior

Penfield’s St. Joseph School unveiled a new book vending machine during a ribbon-cutting ceremony March 12. Penfield Town Supervisor Jeff Leenhouts cut the ribbon, after which three students were selected to receive the first books.
