The Charlotte City Council just approved $650 million to renovate Bank of America Stadium. In return, the Panthers and Charlotte FC will stay in Charlotte for at least 20 more years. The stadium, one of the NFL’s oldest, has housed the Panthers since 1996 and has seen updates but nothing as extensive as the proposed renovations approved on Monday. BREAKING: Charlotte City Council voted 7-3 to approve the Bank of America Stadium upgrades.

Summer officially arrives in Charlotte tomorrow evening at the Solstice. Scientists are now predicting this summer could be the hottest ever due to climate change and an El Niño weather cycle. Forecasters expect a blazing start for the Queen City, with heat index temps expected to hit 100 over the weekend. Much of the eastern United States will swelter under a “heat dome” currently affecting the Midwest.

The fourth US Open begins today at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina. This world-renowned course was recently named the first anchor site for the United States Golf Association (USGA). Over the next 25 years, Pinehurst No. 2 will host four more U.S. Opens in 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047. The world’s #1 ranked Scottie Scheffler enters the US Open as the favorite. Scheffler recently won the Memorial Tournament, marking his fifth PGA Tour title this year.

A 2.2 magnitude earthquake just struck the Rock Hill area yesterday, according to the USGS. The quake hit at exactly 4:02:37 am yesterday morning with a 2.8 km depth and an exact epicenter of 34.922°N 80.966°W:Earthquakes have been increasing in frequency around the Charlotte region over the past few years. Last year, we experienced the largest earthquake in over 100 years when a 5.1 magnitude quake hit Sparta, NC, and since then, dozens of aftershocks have continued to rattle our state.
