Cherwell
Cherwell is a standalone newspaper primarily aimed at Oxford University students. Established in 1920, it has had an online presence since 1996. The name Cherwell comes from the nearby river, and the publication is managed by OSPL (Oxford Student Publications Ltd.), which also produces the sister publication Isis, as well as Bang! science magazine, Industry fashion magazine, and the freshers' magazine Keep Off the Grass. As one of the UK's oldest student publications, Cherwell operates independently and has served as a launching pad for numerous successful careers in journalism and business. The newspaper has its own commercial team, does not rely on university funding, and maintains independence from the student union.

Only the central University had previously published an update which noted they were “carefully reviewing [our] policies and practices concerning transgender inclusion and equality… [including] existing facilities across our estate”.

I still remember the first time I saw Anselm Kiefer’s work. I was in the Pompidou Centre, Paris, and I’d been stumbling around the seemingly endless number of rooms for hours. I was in the state where you’ve taken in so much art that nothing excites – another room of cubism leaves you unmoved; you’re oversaturated with abstraction. Then I stepped into another room, scarcely noticing the change, and stopped straight away. It was a plain room with some glass cabinets containing submarines.

Labyrinth Production’s staging of Patrick Marber’s 1997 play, Closer, was an ambitious move for a student-run production company. Ambitious as it was, the cast themselves put on a strong showing; my major problems with the play stemmed from the original script, rather than their production of it.

Cherwell spoke to forensic anthropologist, award-winning writer, and St John’s College President, Sue Black CW: Violence Professor Lady Sue Black, Baroness Black of Strome certainly has a title which precedes her. The President of St John’s made her name as an academic and forensic scientist who worked to identify victims in conflict zones including Kosovo and Sierra Leone, and then later the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami.
