Helicopters will take to the skies over the North Thompson Valley this week as the Thompson-Nicola Regional District launches its annual aerial mosquito control campaign, aiming to reduce nuisance mosquito populations before they emerge in full force. The operation, part of the TNRD’s Nuisance Mosquito Control Program, begins near Vavenby and moves south toward Kamloops. If needed, areas near Sun Peaks will also be treated.

Drive BC is reporting that Highway 5, north of Blue River is dealing with flooding issues. It says flooding at Allan Creek Rec Site (36 km south of Valemount) is down to single lane alternating traffic. Drivers are advised to watch for traffic control and to expect delays. Drive BC is expected to provide its next update at around 10:00 AM on Tuesday. The issue was first reported on Saturday, May 31.

As measles cases continue to rise in parts of Canada, Interior Health is launching a series of free public immunization clinics in Kamloops and Chase to help residents catch up on their vaccinations and protect against one of the most contagious viruses in the world. Outbreaks were first being seen in Ontario and Alberta has confirmed more than 600 cases since early March. In B.C. we have seen confirmed cases, although to date it has been to a lesser extent.
