Mother Nature is cranking up the summertime heat in Austin and Houston. New data from Climate Central shows the Capital City and Bayou City are among nine major U.S. cities that now experience at least 50 more days per year with above-normal summer temperatures than they did in 1970. Other Texas cities that made the list were El Paso, McAllen, and Tyler. Climate Central is a nonprofit organization that provides climate science research and analysis.

A fancy Miami-based donut and coffee shop that's stealing Austinites' hearts on South Congress Avenue is opening a second location in the Texas capital. This time, The Salty will open in another hub for both tourists and locals: Domain Northside. The new shop at 11501 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 156, will be open for its first visitors Friday, June 6. The Salty is known for its super-gourmet toppings and fillings, ranging from toasted meringue to mini cakes.

A sweet new shop is coming to Austin: Kilwins, a Michigan-based chain famous for its chocolates and sweet treats, will open a location at 3500 E Parmer Ln. near Austin's northeast tech corridor, at a new mixed-use center called the East Village. According to a spokesperson, construction has just begun and the shop will open by late 2025 or early 2026. Kilwins was founded in 1947 in Petoskey, Michigan by Don and Katy Kilwin, and is known for its boxed chocolates, fudge, and ice cream.

A new 210-room, luxury boutique hotel is coming to the Hill Country tourist magnet of Fredericksburg: Kimpton Fredericksburg will anchor a 22-acre, mixed-use development known as The Meuse, which will feature hospitality, dining, and retail options. Kimpton, part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio, has teamed up with Houston-based DC Partners to develop the hotel. It’ll be the fourth Kimpton property in Texas; their most recent opened in San Antonio last year.
