NYCs PYREX dropped their excellent second LP Body last month and it can’t be recommended enough. Stuffed to the brim with catchy hooks, wild vocals, and razor sharp riffs, PYREX layers their brand of punk rock ’n’ roll with a splash of demented energy typically found in the music of garage punk mutants like TY SEGALL and OSEES. Songs like “Face Off”, “Nerve Ends”, and “Reflex” had me going back for a second listen the minute the tracks ended.

Their last release, 2023s Bardo, was a hit and left all of us excited to hear what was next for the band. With new material on the way from some of the best bands currently doing it including HARAM, ABIZM, and PURE TERROR, there’s plenty to look forward to in the first half of the year. Starting things off strong (and available as of this writing) is HEADSPLITTERS’ new LP “Curse Of Life”, a ten song crusher that finds the band in great form.

In my recent efforts to fill in the gaps of my record collection, I’ve gained a big appreciation for labels releasing faithful reissues of classics that would be otherwise unattainable, whether for being impossible to find or too much of a financial burden. I’m more of a completist than a purist anyway, so a solid reissue is right up my alley. One of the best doing it right now is San Francisco’s Prank Records, a label who’ve been putting out albums and reissues since 1995.
