Staff at the Co-op in Burwell noticed Shane Sparks, 47, attempting to conceal a packet of burgers and some cheese down his trousers, on January 28 this year at about 1.30pm. The staff members confronted Sparks when he attempted to leave, but he pulled a kitchen knife out of his pocket and lunged towards them, holding the knife above his head. Sparks continued to brandish the knife towards staff as he threatened to “cut their insides out”.

Detectives have launched an appeal after cash was stolen from a Co-Op in Fordham and Girton. Police were first called to the Co-Op, in Carter Street, Fordham, at about 1.54am today with reports of a break in at the store. Three people broke into the shop and stole cash from inside. A second call came in at 2.32am reporting a break-in at the Co-Op, in Girton Road, Girton with further cash was taken. No one was injured during the break-ins and no arrests have been made.
