As lawmakers figure out how to get approval for regulations on artificial intelligence, Congress is looking to step in and stop the effort. The Congressional budget vote would impose a 10-year moratorium on state laws on AI. The provision is in the bill that cleared the U.S. House of Representatives and is awaiting a vote in the Senate. It also comes after an expansive bill regulating AI in Connecticut stalled in the legislature for the second straight year.

Five witnesses provided testimony during the fourth day of Raul Valle's murder trial. Valle, 20, is accused of stabbing James McGrath of Fairfield Prep at a house party at 43 Laurel Glen Drive on May 14, 2022, when Valle was 16 and McGrath was 17, according to police. The day began with Faison Teele back on the stand. Senior Assistant State's Attorney Marc Durso asked Teele to describe the impact the events of that night have had on him.

Gas prices have jumped over the last week, but experts say there's a reason the summer rise is happening earlier than usual. University of New Haven professor John Mohs said the war between Israel and Iran has caused both gas and oil prices to rise. Oil prices quickly came back down. Mohs said that's because of a belief that Iran won't follow through on its threat to close the Strait of Hormuz. "Think about it, China gets between 40 and 50% of their oil through there," he said.

George Piel, owner of Tony's Auto Service in New Haven, said heat waves put significant stress on cars, particularly their electrical and cooling systems. "The heat tends to be a lot harsher on vehicles than the cold weather," Piel said. "We see battery failures, A/C failures, coolant failures.
