Large dairy firms have been accused of “turning a blind eye” to global methane emissions, by a report that has found a lack of clear reduction targets. According to research into 20 major dairy brands and large coffee chains, carried out by Changing Markets, just two companies (Nestle and Danone) report reduced methane emissions. Methane is a major driver of rapid climate heating, being 80 times more powerful than carbon dioxide.

Some 41% of food and drink manufacturers have scaled back or cancelled investments for long-term growth, according to new data. The Food and Drink Federation’s (FDF) latest State of Industry report finds confidence among food and drink businesses remains persistently low, at -43% in the first quarter of 2025. The report also found that a third of businesses, including nearly half (47%) of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), said they expect conditions to deteriorate further.

The Co-op is now in a “recovery phase” after it was hit by a third-party cyber attack late last month. In the latest statement from the convenience retailer, published today (14 May), a spokesperson said: “We are now in the recovery phase and are taking steps to bring our systems gradually back online in a safe and controlled manner.”The statement added that Co-op had taken “early and decisive action to restrict access to our systems” in order to protect the group.
