The Telegraph has compiled a list of Britain’s 10 most genteel seaside towns that are "perfect for a weekend away". "From the ‘Biarritz of the North’ to a perfectly-preserved medieval town, these coastal destinations make for a refined trip," the publisher said.

The volunteer group has ensured the town blossoms with colour every year since 2000. Launched in 1999 by Michael Portway and Julia Smith, the group celebrated the 25th anniversary of its first official meeting in January this year. Each year, residents look forward to the beautiful arrays of blossoms and plants expertly arranged up the High Street where they sit all summer before they are removed in October to make way for a smaller scale winter planting.

Essex Police received a call from the public on April 15 about suspicious activity at a premises in Halsted. Officers attended the scene and seized around 500 cannabis plants. Two men were caught by officers fleeing from the cannabis grow. Fisnik Hoxha, 33, and Fatlind Imeraj, 23, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on 28 May and have both been sentenced to six months in prison after previously admitting to the cultivation of cannabis.

Jailed - A man from Colchester has been jailed after being part of a gang in London (Image: Met Police) A MAN who was part of a gang which was responsible for up to 60 thefts and robberies which saw £225,000 stolen has been jailed. Jacob Raki, 23, of Quayside Drive, Colchester, admitted six counts of handling stolen goods, two counts of attempted fraud and one count of robbery.

Last weekend, William Mower, aged six, took on his third Nuclear Rookie Rush Race to raise funds for specialist therapy for his sister. Imelda, eight, was born with global hypotonia, which means she has decreased muscle tone. This affected her bones as she grew in the womb so that she was born with scoliosis and a twisted ankle. In her short life, she has endured 15 surgeries, hundreds of medical appointments, and remains under 11 consultants at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
