There's an expression "give an arm and a leg." Kenly Whitaker came close. "It was hard, it was mentally draining, but I learned a lot about myself through every surgery," Whitaker said. "Especially this last one of what I could handle, and I think going into college and work in my career it's going to do a lot to help me."Over the course of her 4 years at Eastern Randolph High School, Kenly has had five knee surgeries.

The N.C. Coaches Association has released the rosters for the 2025 East-West All-Star Girls Basketball Game. Graduating seniors from N.C. High School Athletic Association member schools who were nominated by their coaches are eligible to be selected to the game. Top seniors from the East will compete against their counterparts from the West on July 21 at the Swarm Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.

A big first inning helped (16) Corinth Holders to a first round win over (17) Fuquay-Varina in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4A softball state playoffs on Tuesday night. Corinth Holders defeated Fuquay-Varina 8-1, the second time the Pirates have beaten the Bengals this season. After the Bengals scored a run in the top of the inning, Corinth Holders answered with six runs in the bottom of the first inning to claim a 6-1 lead.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association boys golf championships are next week, featuring two 18-hole rounds across Monday and Tuesday. The 4A championships are held at Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 8 (Monday at No. 2, Tuesday at No. 8), 3A is at Gates Four in Fayetteville, 2A is at Pinehurst No. 6, and the 1A championship is at the Longleaf Golf & Family Club in Southern Pines. Each classification has four regionals to determine who advances to states.

Providence Day's first loss of the season dropped the Chargers from second to fourth in this weke's HighSchoolOT girls lacrosse statewide rankings. Chapel Hill and rival East Chapel Hill are now second and third going into the last week of the regular season. There were no new teams, but a lot of changing of positions in the lower half of the rankings. Cardinal Gibbons remains No. 1, with all five of its losses coming to out-of-state teams.
