February is American Heart Month, and the road toward a healthy cardiovascular system late in life begins early in adulthood. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women across most ethnic and racial groups. In 2022, it accounted for 1 in 5 of all U.S. deaths. Heart disease is also the top reason for death in Indiana, where in 2022 more than 15,000 people died from the disorder.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center researchers have mapped pancreatic cancer tumor ecosystems using tissue from both the primary tumor, which is where cancer first starts to grow in the body, and metastatic disease, or when cancer cells spread to different parts of the body beyond the primary tumor.

INDIANAPOLIS — Researchers at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center and the IU School of Medicine have discovered that Black patients with breast cancer who are treated with a chemotherapy called docetaxel experience less of a harmful side effect called peripheral neuropathy. Their findings represent an important shift in knowledge about a patient population who’ve historically been underrepresented in breast cancer research.

Dr. Pabon-Rodriguez is the Founding member and Director of the Mid-American Math Alliance (MAMA). INDIANAPOLIS — On the twelfth night of April, the 12th Chuckstrong Tailgate Gala included former #12 Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and raised $1.5 million for research at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center. Hosted by the Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay and former head coach Chuck Pagano at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center, the 2024 Chuckstrong Tailgate Gala brought total giving to $15.5 millionfor cancer research.
