ABSTRACTThe Triassic fossil record (252–201 Ma) preserves shifts in ray-finned fish (Actinopterygii) assemblages from stem-group “palaeoniscoids” to primarily neopterygians, which comprise half of extant vertebrate species. Upper Triassic deposits in the western U.S.A. show the history of the transition in ray-finned fish assemblages in fluvio-lacustrine ecosystems. We describe isolated teeth and rostra of a new species of “palaeoniscoid” ray-finned fish, †Saurichthys justitias sp.

The LSD virus (LSDV) is a relatively poorly studied virus. Its 151 Kb genome encodes 156 open reading frames (ORF); however, the exact number of the proteins encoded by the viral genome and their specific functions remain largely unknown.

ABSTRACTThis paper offers a novel explanation for the inclusion of labour and environmental provisions in the European Union’s (EU) preferential trade agreements, highlighting the impact of politicisation and place on this form of institutionalisation. It critiques existing theories for projecting ex officio preferences onto DG Trade and builds an alternative explanation based on the notion that preferences are produced endogenously through interactions.

ABSTRACTStates often seek to undermine their competitors in order to obtain a favorable balance of power. Yet, the literature on how they actually do that remains sparse and disconnected. We focus on how an external actor resorts to divisions to weaken a target and differentiate that from other forms of foreign interference. We offer a simple and more comprehensive conceptualization of wedge strategies, which we define as a state’s efforts to divide a target group internally and/or externally.
