URBANA — President Trump is asking Congress to pull back all federal funding for public radio and television broadcast stations by rescinding funds for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The recission package would withdraw money that was allocated for the next two years before Trump returned to a second term. The move comes as the new fiscal year approaches on July 1.

URBANA — The General Consulate of Guatemala in Chicago partnered with the New American Welcome Center to bring its services to Urbana this weekend. Over two days, the consular staff helped Guatemalan nationals obtain passports and consular ID’s. The mobile consulate was part of an ongoing effort to make consular services more accessible to Guatemalans across the country. Rosario Ovando Castro is the Consul General of the consulate and led the 12-person team onsite.

CHAMPAIGN — The first Black, female superintendent of Champaign Unit 4 schools has been pushed out after four years. The majority of the school board voted Thursday to approve a separation agreement with Superintendent Shelia Boozer. CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Unit 4 Board of Education plans to vote on a separation agreement Thursday with Superintendent Shelia Boozer. Another administrator, Executive Director of Facilities and Services Dan Casillas, would be appointed acting superintendent, according to the meeting agenda. The school board was divided over Boozer’s tenure for two years before the election last month. In April, voters elected a majority that support replacing her as superintendent.
