The Gleaner Company Ltd is a newspaper publishing business based in Jamaica. It was founded in 1834 by Joshua and Jacob De Cordova. The main product of the company is The Gleaner, a morning broadsheet that is released six days a week. Additionally, they produce a Sunday edition called the Sunday Gleaner, along with an evening tabloid known as The Star. The company also offers weekly editions that are distributed in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

    WESTERN BUREAU:Three police officers charged in the 2014 beating death of Mario Deane gave unsworn statements from the dock on Thursday in the Westmoreland Circuit Court despite their legal team opting not to present a formal defence. Corporal Elaine Stewart and Constables Juliana Clevon and Marlon Grant are charged with manslaughter and misconduct in public office. Stewart also faces a charge of perverting the course of justice.

    A 12-year-old boy is alleged to have been jailed overnight by cops in Trelawny after he refused to comply with their demand for the password to his cell phone. That’s the claim from the attorney for the child’s family. The series of incidents began in the community of Florence Hall, Trelawny, on April 24 and ended the following day, when the boy was released from the Falmouth Police Station without any criminal charge, according to Donnovan Collins, the attorney retained by the family.
