The question we ask every summer. Lately, many corn farmers in Iowa are doing the planting, and they say it's been going really well. According to the USDA's latest Crop Progress Report (which came out on Monday), 11% of Iowa's corn crop was already in the ground as of Sunday. So yay for the farmers for being on top of it!But the eternal Midwestern question remains: will the corn be knee-high by the 4th of July? The answer to that could be more like head-high by the 4th of July.

Iowa's governor for nearly 10 years has announced she will not run again. According to an X (formerly Twitter) post from Governor Kim Reynolds, she will not seek reelection in 2026. WQAD reports she first took office in 2017 when then-Governor Terry Branstad stepped down from the position to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to China. Before she was Iowa's governor, she was the Lieutenant Governor. Prior to that, she was part of the state senate, and she was the Clarke County Treasurer.

A restaurant with a unique menu will close up shop in downtown Davenport. It's sad to see restaurants go, and the latest in Davenport to leave is in the downtown area, specifically at 229 Brady. Cavort Libations & Bites posted on Facebook that they will be closing after 5 years in business in the space. Cavort's menu has always been unique (personally, I liked it and the vibe was good for dates), with cuisine officially listed as California, Southwest, Hawaiian, Vegan, and Vegetarian.
