Carolina improved to 5-0 at home in the playoffs and can clinch a second trip to the Eastern Conference final in three years by winning Game 5 in Washington on Thursday.

SHELL LAKE — The Washburn County Board will again discuss whether or not to pay a court claim made by a former supervisor against the county. Last year, District 19 Supervisor Brian Melton resigned from the County Board. He told the Executive Committee this was because he felt the updated public comment policy at open meetings stripped elected officials of their constitutional discretionary powers as chairs of committees and public servants.

On Thursday May 1, approximately 100 people took part in a “May Day Strong” demonstration and march in Hayward. Participants held signs at the corner of Highways 63 and 27 and walked four blocks from that corner to the Sawyer County Courthouse and back as a show of support for Sawyer County Judge Monica Isham and a protest against funding cuts and other recent actions by the Trump administration. Another Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest was made at the Milwaukee County Courthouse on May 7. Chief Judge Carl Ashley said he was told the arrest occurred after a court hearing. Since March, at least four people have been arrested for immigration enforcement in or near the courthouse. Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was charged with obstruction after escorting a man sought by ICE into a public hallway outside her courtroom.
