As DJ Khaled’s “All I Do Is Win” rang in the background at a recent spring practice, Arizona State redshirt senior wide receiver Malik McClain did a stutter step and cut on the inside of cornerback Keith Abney II, where a Sam Leavitt pass was coming in hot. McClain grabbed the ball in stride and took the pass into the end zone, with an assistant coach tailing him all the way before McClain dunked the ball on the goal post.

The Chandler girls' 4x100-meter relay team set a new Arizona high school record in the event on Wednesday, April 23, at the City of Chandler Championships, breaking a mark that had stood for over 20 years. Chandler ran the event in 45.63 seconds, eclipsing the record of 45.65 set by Peoria’s vaunted 2004 girls' team, which included Jessica Onyepunuka, one of the best sprinters ever from Arizona.

Since opening in 2018, Cocina Madrigal made its way to No. 1 on Yelp'sTopPlaces to Eat in 2022 and made USA TODAY's list of top 100 places to eat in the United States in 2020. Then, the beloved Mexican restaurant closed in March 2024 due to a kitchen fire. Fans waited with bated breath for Cocina to reopen. Now, the wait is over. Well, sort of. Cocina Madrigal has temporarily re-opened as a food truck at 1523 E. Wood Street in a lot about 200 feet away from the original location.

Six months ago, Gabby Taylor and Aubryn Lindblom barely knew each other. Now, the senior teammates at Gilbert Highland have become close friends and are pushing each other to historic times on the track. Taylor ran 53.80 seconds in the 400 meters at the Arcadia Invitational on April 12, coming in first at the prestigious meet.

The two-month mark of the outdoor track and field season is here. The final stretch of competition is around the corner with the AIA divisional championships on May 8-10 and state championships on May 16-17 quickly coming up. There are still some high-level meets left before the state meet, but for the most part, a majority of the top schools and athletes are shifting to focusing on those two weekends in May.
