The Milton Independent is a community newspaper that publishes weekly for the residents of Milton and Georgia, Vermont. Established in February 1993 by Lynn Delaney, a longtime journalist and Milton resident, the paper has deep roots in the local community. After beginning her career at NBC in New York, Delaney moved to Milton, where she contributed to Milton Matters, a volunteer-written monthly newsletter. However, when local officials wanted to approve articles before they were published—essentially censoring content—Delaney chose to leave. This decision caught the attention of Emerson Lynn, the Editor and Publisher of the St. Albans Messenger, who supported Delaney in launching her own publication. Today, the Milton Independent continues to be owned and printed by the St. Albans Messenger.

MILTON — After clashing with residents about a proposed distribution center in Essex Town, Amazon is now having conversations with other municipalities. Milton Selectboard Chair Darren Adams confirmed at a recent public meeting that Milton officials had been in contact with Amazon about possible preliminary plans to relocate the build site to their municipality.

ESSEX TOWN — Amazon, the infamous multibillion dollar megacorporation, is in the midst of an application process for what would become its first-ever facility in Vermont. Their proposal? To land the distribution facility, exceeding 100,000 units of square footage, in the Town of Essex. The project has yet to obtain an official go-ahead, as the company and its engineering firm is in its site application phase currently.

MILTON — The No. 6 Milton Yellow Jackets girls basketball team hosted to the No. 11 Springfield Cosmos in a Division II playoff showdown on Tuesday, March 4. After a tight first quarter, the Yellow Jackets offense, led by junior forward Marlie Bushey, found its rhythm rolling to a 53-35 victory. It was a low scoring opening quarter as both teams demonstrated solid defense and worked to find their footing on offense.

Phil Scott, the Vermont Department of Labor and the McClure Foundation announced their release of a list entitled “Vermont’s Most Promising Jobs.” The list includes over 50 occupations expected to pay a median wage above $30 an hour and have at least 300 openings between 2022-2032. This brochure is reconfigured every two years as the product of research updated through a partnership that’s been ongoing since 2014.
