Earlier this week, the UK’s Supreme Court handed down a ruling in a case brought by trans-exclusionary group For Women Scotland against the Scottish government. The court ruled that for the purposes of the UK’s Equality Act legislation, the legal definition of a woman excludes trans women and the protected characteristic of “sex” refers to biology.

‘Trans women are not women’: UK Supreme Court

In a shock ruling overnight, the UK Supreme Court has ruled that trans women are not women. In a decision that delighted the TERF movement, all five judges presiding over the matter ruled that trans women are not real women. “The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman,” said British Supreme Court judge Lord Hodge. The landmark ruling was in response to a case brought forward by campaign group For Women Scotland.
