Denny Medley-Imagn Images The trick about a Player of the Week post is that pitchers often get the short end of the stick. Most starting pitchers only get one game, and sometimes the team’s best relievers don’t necessarily pitch more than a couple times. With the draft looming on July 13, the mock drafts have begun in earnest. The Royals will be selecting with the #23 pick - their latest selection for a first pick since 2016, when they forfeited their first-round pick to sign free agent Ian Kennedy. Royals pitchers dominated all game. Seth Lugo started and has looked more and more like his 2024 Cy Young runner-up self. The only run he gave up came in the fourth inning off an Alejandro Osuna single which scored Corey Seager. Other than that? Nails.

Denny Medley-Imagn Images Tonight is ye olde “unstoppable force meets immovable object” situation: the Kansas City Royals have lost six in a row, while the Texas Rangers have won four in a row. The Rangers are undoubtedly the better team here, but that hardly matters in baseball—will the Royals spoil the Rangers’ hot streak and create a hot streak of their own? And, the other thing—will Jac Caglianone get a home run as a Royal? Will he ever hit a home run as a Royal? Yes, it will come.
