SJX Watches

Message from the Founder My fascination with watches began in 1997 and has grown into something truly special. It all started as a personal blog after I spent time as a freelance journalist focusing on watches for various daily newspapers in Singapore and moderating discussions on an online watch forum. In 2011, I decided to create a space where I could share my insights about watches and the industry, initially running it by myself. Over the years, it has evolved into a dedicated editorial team, complete with an in-house photographer and several occasional contributors whose input I greatly appreciate. I often go by the initials "SJX" online, which inspired the name of the site. My passion for watches is broad, but I'm particularly drawn to independent watchmaking. I also enjoy delving into the technical aspects, such as the world's most precise wristwatch, and exploring fascinating historical narratives, like the tale of J.P. Morgan's elusive grand complication.

The flying tourbillon marks the beginning of my career as a watch dealer and collector. In the mid-1970s, I met a former fellow pupil of mine, Richard Miklosch, in a little antique shop in my hometown of Aachen. At the time, I was unaware that Miklosch (1939-2014), originally a technical schoolteacher, had become a highly sought-after watchmaker specialising in pocket watch tourbillons (Fig. 1) – to his great credit being entirely self-taught in the field [1, p. 198][1, pp. 374-377][2, p. 140][3, p.

In late 2023, a then-unknown Moonwatch with a white dial was seen on the wrist of actor Daniel Craig. The mysterious watch turned out to be the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch with a “lacquered white dial” that was officially unveiled in March 2024. Notably, it was released a regular production, instead of limited edition. An iconic design, the Omega Speedmaster Professional is best known as the Moonwatch with the classic black dial.

A fever dream — form that bent and curved the very idea of what a wristwatch could be. The Cartier Crash, born out of myth and mystery, is no conventional timepiece. As established notions of purpose and design in watchmaking, the Crash exists at the intersection of watchmaking and sculpture. To the uninitiated, the Crash may seem bizarre, wildly eccentric for the sake of it, but to those steeped in horology, it is an icon.

With roots in 1950s French military-issue chronographs, the modern-day Type XX Chronographe was originally released in the mid-1990s and is now’s trademark pilot’s chronograph – and also the brand’s entry-level complication. Originally utilising Lemania-based movement in prior generations, the Type XX was entirely revamped, inside and out, with the unveiling of the Type XX Chronograph 2057 and 2067 earlier this year.

Citizen launched its flagship mechanical watch, the Caliber 0200, two years ago. Despite being better known for high-end electronic watches, the  Japanese watchmaker managed an impressively executed three-handed sports watch, with an equally outstanding new movement. Now the model finally receives a mechanical upgrade with the Caliber 0210, which incorporates a date along with subtle improvements to the external design, while retaining the excellent case and bracelet that define the model.
