Mr. Jon Keene, age 71, of Claxton, died Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at his home after an extended illness. He was a native of Fukuoka, Japan while his parents were stationed at Camp Hakata during his father’s military service. After Japan, Jon spent most of his life on Saint Simons Island before moving to Claxton in 2025 and was Christian by faith. He enjoyed listening to rock and roll music, playing golf, and his children and family were the love of his life.

Mrs. Mildred Proctor Morrison, age 83, of the Johnson Corner Community, died Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Treutlen County, moved to Vidalia in 1960 and to Johnson Corner in 2005. She worked at Hazlehurst Manufacturing, twenty-five years at Oxford Industries, and the Shrimp Boat. She was a member of Cedar Crossing Baptist Church and the Dixie Dumplings, and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia.

The Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office is performing an investigation after a call to which they were dispatched Thursday appears to be fraud. According to the Sheriff’s Office, around 6:37 Thursday morning deputies responded to Wilson Road and GA 92 Spur in Twin City where they found a vehicle riddled with bullet holes with bullet casings surrounding the automobile. Investigators determined that the scene was staged, and that the vehicle was unoccupied at the time the shots were fired.
