    Mrs. Sherry “Pennie” Poole, age 77, of the Center Community, died Monday, June 2, 2025, at The Oaks Bethany in Vidalia following an extended illness. She was a native of Toombs County, living in Center most of her life, and she was a 1966 graduate of Vidalia High School. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Calvin “Donnie” Poole; and parents, Lamar Clyde Corbin and Frances Suzie Wells Corbin.

She was the daughter of the late Della Helton McMichael and Willie Smith. She passed away on May 31, 2025 at the age of 99. Mrs. Quinn lived a life full of love and heartache. She was a strong-willed woman who loved her family. She was always in her garden growing vegetables, in the kitchen canning those vegetables or making crafts.

    The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that the search is continuing for a 52-year-old man who went missing in the Oconee River on Saturday afternoon after the boat hit a tree. Searchers and diving teams are bearing deep water and fierce current and other obstacles in the search.

    A former Vidalia High School multisport athletic standout lost his life Friday morning in a horrific accident on Interstate 16 in Candler County. Candler County Sheriff’s Office alerted drivers just after 9:00a.m. that morning that a multi-vehicle crash involving two 18-wheelers had occurred, and the highway was shut down westbound between the Metter exit and the exit to Highway 57 with traffic being rerouted through Metter proper.
