Student Life serves as the self-governing student newspaper for Washington University in St. Louis. Established in 1878 and officially incorporated in 1999, it is published by Washington University Student Media, Inc. This means it operates independently of the University's administration, allowing it to truly represent the voice of the student body.

    Pop music today is not the same as it was in 2008. Trashy, glitter-soaked dance floors have been traded for cleaner, tidier aesthetics. Boisterous, loud singing has been swapped for a lighter, breathier timbre. And, perhaps due to the illusion of intimacy that social media provides, superstars just don’t hold the same otherworldly power that they used to.

    The  No. 18 WashU softball team dominated against The University of Chicago, winning all three games against the Maroons on March 28 and 29. The Bears are now 18-5 for the year and 5-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The weekend opened with a tight game as the Bears defeated UChicago 1-0.

    Coming off of two wins for their last home games of the season against the University of Rochester and Emory University, the WashU women’s basketball team fell 65-55 to the University of Chicago in their final game of the season. On Saturday, the beginning of the first quarter was very tight, with both teams trading points. Although WashU had a run of points, the Maroons answered with another run immediately after. The first quarter ended with the Maroons just barely up 11-10.

    Coming off of a three-game losing streak, the WashU women’s basketball team went 1-1 on the road, battling in close games against Case Western Reserve University and Carnegie Mellon University on Feb. 14 and 16. The Bears narrowly beat the Case Western Spartans 62-61 but fell to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans 76-70, leaving the team 5-6 in conference play.
