ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — The UAW St. Joseph County All-Star track and field meet is set to take place in about a month. This year, Mendon High School will be the host site for the annual event, which will take place on May 27. The top eight athletes in each event throughout the county will compete in the all-star matchup. The event is not a scored event, but there is one male and female who earn the prestigious Baker MVP award based on their finishes. These seedings will be updated each week.

STURGIS — On Monday evening, the Sturgis tennis team received a strong clash from visiting Otsego. But the Trojans were up for the challenge, winning the team portion of the match by a score of 5-3. Three of those victories for Sturgis came in singles action. All three of those wins were in straight sets as well. Gracie Perry defeated Manu Marchi by a score of 7-6, 6-3 in second singles play.

BYRON CENTER — The Sturgis girls track team continued its strong start to the season on Saturday. The Trojans competed at the Byron Center Bulldog Games Invite and came away with a third-place finish. Sturgis scored 87 points and finished with several Top 3 placements. Eleena Kelley was second overall in the discus at 121 feet, 4 inches. This distance makes her the first Trojan early qualifier, guaranteeing her a spot at the state finals.

VICKSBURG — The Sturgis girls track team continues to impress. The boys are having a strong season to this point as well. On Wednesday, the Trojans teams competed in a double dual at Vicksburg. The girls cruised to victories over Vicksburg (103-32) and Plainwell (93-44). Sturgis' 400 relay team of Tenley Banaszak, Angela Cary, Hannah Garbine and Keyanna O'Tey has the best time in the state for Division 2, they were first at 50.66 seconds.
